I'm Richard Marshall - language confidence coach, author, and former stand-up comedian who moved to Spain in 2015 and promptly lost my voice.
Not literally.
But I know what it feels like to be confident, funny, and authoritative in one language, and to go quiet in another. It took me years to understand what was actually happening. That understanding is the foundation of everything I do.
I've worked with professionals who are fluent enough to function in English but not yet confident enough to lead in it.
Yes, we work on grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
But only once we've addressed what's actually blocking you. The deeply rooted beliefs and experiences that stop you from using the English you already have.
My methodology, Identity-First Fluency™, starts where other approaches stop.
"My English doesn't define who I am." - Senior Executive, Madrid

What to Expect: You do most of the talking. I listen for what's underneath. Not just the grammar, the hesitations, and the habits, but the belief that mistakes mean something about you. They don't. And when you finally see that, everything changes. We work on changing how you feel about speaking, not just what you say. By the end of our time together, you'll walk into rooms you once avoided, contribute ideas you once held back, and express yourself with the clarity and authority you already have in your native language. |
Every programme is personalised to how you think, what blocks your confidence, and the specific situations where you need to show up in English. No two clients are the same. No two programmes are identical.

What makes this different:
Your words, your voice, your progress, fed back to you in a format designed to go deeper than conscious effort and embed change at the level where it actually sticks. You listen to it on walks, on the journey to or from work, in the quiet moments between everything else. The repetition does something that sessions alone can't. It keeps the work alive between conversations, so you're not starting from scratch each time we meet. Your leadership presence and your English confidence are the same thing. This programme treats them that way. |
1. Is this suitable if I already speak English quite well?
Yes. This is specifically for people who already speak English. The gap isn't in your knowledge. It's in your confidence to use it.
2. Why do I sound different in English even though my grammar is good?
Because grammar and confidence are two completely different things. You can know every rule in the book and still freeze the moment someone looks at you expectantly. What you're experiencing isn't a language problem, it's a psychological one. The way you learned English, the pressure to be correct, the fear of being judged, these leave a mark that no grammar lesson can fix.
3. Why do I keep translating in my head instead of thinking directly in English?
Because your brain is still running the language through your first language as a filter. This is extremely common and has nothing to do with ability. It's a habit built over years of learning English as a subject rather than living it as a language. The work we do together addresses this at the level it actually lives, identity, not vocabulary.
4. I've worked with other English teachers before. What makes this different?
Most English teaching focuses on knowledge: grammar rules, vocabulary lists, pronunciation exercises. My work focuses on psychology, the beliefs and deeply rooted experiences that stop you from using what you already know. If you've studied English for years but still freeze when it matters, more knowledge isn't the answer. Changing how you feel about speaking is.
5. I'm extremely busy and my schedule is unpredictable. Can this work for me?
Yes. When urgent priorities arise, we reschedule, no penalties, no hassle. This is designed for executives whose calendars change constantly. We make it work.
6. I can't explain myself well in English even though I know the language. Is that normal?
More common than you'd think, and one of the most frustrating experiences my clients describe. You have the words. You have the knowledge. But in the moment, under pressure, something blocks it. That block isn't linguistic. It's what we work on.
7. How do I get started?
Answer three quick questions about your situation and I'll be in touch. From there, we'll either schedule a call if you're ready, or I'll send you personalised insights to help you move forward. If you already know you want to talk, you can book a discovery call directly.
